When you consider the most favorite sunglasses from recent years, they are usually linked to the film or pop star wearing them to a glitzy event. Hollywood may choose its most iconic sunglasses by the actor or director wearing them, whereas, for everyone else, which sunglasses provided us with an awesome impression that we were soon thrilled to be seen wearing them?

Sunglasses are undoubtedly an accessory that almost no one should be without. While they protect your eyes from dangerous UV rays, they also provide you with a great fashion statement.

1 Ray ban aviator classic

These have been popular amongst many actors and pop stars over the years. From Tom Cruise in top gear, where these aviator classics were worn as part of the fighter pilot’s uniform, to just about any movie featuring an actor flying an airplane or leading troops into a difficult combat.

2 Ray ban original Wayfarer classic

You may not have noticed the original and traditional Wayfarer classic sunglasses before the Blues Brothers movie acquired them for iconic status. Now, you can never forget them, especially as the Blues Brothers were instantly cool, whatever they did; good or bad.

3 Circular spectacles

During the late 1960s and early 1970s, John Lennon always wore his special circular spectacles, sometimes known as Teashades. In recent years, Mary Kate Olsen has been seen wearing the same circular spectacles, but after his legendary television appearances they are commonly known now as Ozzy Osbourne style shades. Who next?

4 Nirvana glasses

Kurt Cobain wore Christian Roth’s sunglasses almost everywhere. The pale oval shades were part of his lifestyle and were reissued as a silver lining vintage in 2010.

5 Steve McQueen’s glasses

The actor was cool and calm in every movie scene, so it is no surprise that the Persol 0714s became extremely popular after the Thomas Crown Affair movie. They housed blue lenses and were collapsible and sold for $60,000 the last time they were auctioned.

6 Oakley sunglasses

These one-piece lenses are commonly associated with actors in films playing policeman, soldiers and other official bodies. Occasionally athletes and posers on the beach enjoy wearing this brand.

7 Lady Gaga’s cigarettes

On the good side, at least she wore sunglasses, but this must be balanced with her cigarette goggles being made from real cigarettes. The health hazard probably means that no one else will be wearing these iconic sunglasses in the near future. No one is sure if she could even see through the cigarettes. She would have been better off choosing cat eye style sunglasses, mostly available to suit ladies, but available from some of the major exclusive brands like Dolce and BVLGARI.

8 Star Trek VISOR

Glasses worn by Geordi la Forge have not yet been officially available, despite his many Star Trek appearances. The character was born blind and used his VISOR (Visual Instrument and Sensory Organ Replacement) to detect electromagnetic signals which allowed his brain to ‘see.’ No one knows where you would take these glasses for repair if you damaged them in any way. You can’t ask Spok.

9 The yellow aviators

Johnny Depp wore these when he played Raoul Duke, a fictional character, also known as the anti-hero from the novel, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The character would only ever be seen wearing the yellow aviators, whether out in the bright sunshine or inside.

10 The Sir Elton John style

Any sunglasses worn by Elton John tend to be extremely flamboyant and extravagant. The color of his sunglasses is not usually appreciated unless they are bright pink or completely white. With whichever shades he can be seen wearing, you will know they are going to be large and often square.

Some brands and models of sunglasses stay with us for decades while several newbies show up from time to time. The key to great sunglasses is how good you look in them and exactly how they suit your face, style and fashion. You do know, however that whatever sunglasses Rhianna decides to wear for the next five years, they will immediately top this iconic sunglasses checklist.
